All right, we’ve been pretty super bad with the newsletter in the recent months. Things were hectic, or maybe we just got lazy. Anyway, we’re back, and intend on serving you your weekly dose of wax and silicon goodies more regularely in the future. The Densing may go on.

To kick off the highlights of the week, let’s start with the newly relocated to Berlin Tim Exile and his new album on Warp, the surprising “Listening Tree”, available on vinyl and CD at your favorite record store (and we’ve got the “Family Galaxy” single as well). Also on Warp, do not miss Hudson Mohawke‘s “Polyfolk Dance”, in a more hip-hop direction. And “almost” on Warp, don’t pass on the soon-to-be-rare 12″ of Flying Lotus feat. Declaime on amp

A lot of new dubstep wax also arrived this wek, with for example two new split 12″ on Tectonic (Martyn / 2562 and Skream / Benga), some super heavy dubstep CD (a rare thing) from Somatic Responses and Kromestar, a new Sarantis 12″ and a new compilation on Terminal Dusk, or three new records by the great 16 Bit (quite varied, one of them featuring a Mr Oizo remix). Speaking of the devil, Mr Oizo‘s “Pourriture” 12″ has arrived from the Ed Banger stock to Berlin.

Those of you looking for more delicate atmospheres and a few more strings should be well advised to check out the new LPs by Japan’s Mono (“Hymn To The Immortal Wind”) and Holland’s The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (“Mutations”), while your dose of fresh hip hop might come in the form of MF Doom‘s new album on Lex.

Finally, let’s cool down, expand our musical cultures and trip away with the double CD compilation curated by the usual more techno oriented Henrik Schwarz and Ame Dixon (“The Grandfather Paradox”, on BBE) or Lustmord‘s new “The Dark Place Of The Earth”.

Happy new year from everybody at Dense. May 2009 bring you bass, beats, drones, glitch, riffs, noises, breaks and everything else that sounds sweet to your ears. Here’s a list of new releases found under the current blanket of snow over Berlin, to help you kick start your musical year.

There are quite a few heavy hitters in the dubstep aisle this week, starting with the new “Tempa All Stars vol. 5” from (how surprising) the Tempa label, Coki‘s new 12″ on DMZ, Kode 9‘s new one on Hyperdub, and a very massive “Wasted” 12″ by the less known Excision on Rag & Bone.

Speed things up, add a megaton of breaks, and you get some strong new breakcore records, starting with the infectious and uplifting “Time To Play vol. 1″ by Sickboy on Ad Noiseam, then going with Repeater‘s “Ultra Violet” on Peace Off. After bouncing to these two (and a pause in the techno room with the Ricardo Villalobos remixes of Carl Craig & Moritz von Ostwald‘s recomposition of Ravel’s Bolero), time for some calming down at home with Robert Henke (akak Monolake)’s new “Atom / Document” CD, Old Splendifolia‘s “Swaying Boldly Afar” CD (on Plop), more neo-classical experimentations with Maninkari‘s new “Art des Poussières” LP on Conspiracy, or joy for the eyes with Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto‘s “Insen” DVD (on Raster Noto, of course).

More drones, more doomy sound are coming this week with “Till The Old World’s Blown Up” by Fennesz, Dafeldecker and Brandlmayr, Isis‘s new “Not In Rivers But In Drops” (on Ipecac) and the very pretty split between Jesu and Envy on Conspiracy.

So, Christmas… How about a bloody, retro one with “Blood Is Red”, a very limited box containg soundtrack to no less than 5 different movies by Dario Argento? A bit lighter in wax but not in sound and as limited is “June”, the new picture / etched 12″ by Fennesz on Table Of The Elements.

Of course, nobody will be let out of this year without having checked out Mr Oizo‘s “Lambs Anger” album and “Positif” single, Distance‘s “Repercussions” triple LP / double CD or Starkey‘s equally extensive “Ephemeral Exhibits”. These have been long enough in the making, don’t pass on them. Dubstep fans should also not miss Skream‘s fifth “Skreamizm” (on three 12″ this time), or the first CD by 2562‘s A Made Up Sound side-project.

Less bass, more beats? We’ve of course stocked “Dynamo”, the new album by the great Rumpistol (who played at Dense a couple of weeks ago), as well as Wisp‘s new Rephlex 12″, “Katabatic”. Still broken beats but in a more hip-hop way, check out Daedelus‘s “Touchtone & TWF Remixes” 12″ on Ninja Tunes, as it’s quite tasty.

In the more guitar-oriented section, James DIN A4 delivers a very interesting “Saint Dymphana” CD on Pingipung, while Blast First Petite has the good idea of re-issuing some classics by Suicide, Lydia Lunch and others on a couple of 10″.

Two in-store gigs this week, a month-long special sale and plenty of new records: here’s quite a lot to read today from your favorite record store.

Let’s start with the in store gigs:

-On Thursday (Dec. 4th), we’ll have sets by France’s Led Piperz, Dino and DJ Twelve (all members of the very well known High Tone collective), playing a fine selection of dub, dubstep and breaks. Watch out, this will start on 18h and end on 20h.

-On Saturday (Dec. 6th), our good friends of Denmark’s Rump Recordings wil have stop again at Dense, this time with sets by Rumpistol and Sofus Forsberg. This starts at 19h and goes till 21h.

Then, the sale: we know that Christmas-time is hard on the wallet, and are having special one-day only offers every day from now till Christmas. The offer will change every day and will not be announced, but there’ll be some goodies for free or cheap, so come to the store and check them out. It’s starting this week with a selection of two CD and one record from which every customer buying for more than 50 € can get one item free. But no, we’re not telling in advance what items we are selecting for this give away, you have to come to the store.

Then, the new beats and riffs: we’ve got quite a lot of very nice releases this week from all genres.
We could start with a big bunch of items coming from the Berlin-based Ad Noiseam label, delivering both hard-hitting breakcore (with new material by The Teknoist, Sickboy and Abelcain / Cdatakill) and down-tempo, slightly electronic post-rock (with Larvae‘s new album), and stay in Berlin with B.Fleischmann‘s new album on Morr Music. In the same highly melodic, slightly sweet fashion, Hauschka‘s new LP, “Ferndorf” also deserves the spotlight.

Definitely less sweet and considerably darker is “Demoni Paradiso”, the new CD by B.J. Nielsen’s Evil Madness, on 12 Tonar. Let’s stay drony and experimental with a new Machinefabriek LP on Morc Tapes, this times as a collaboration with the ill-named Soccer Committee, or with Jim O’Rourke‘s new “Long Night” double CD on Streamline. Finally, check out your classic with the re-issue of “Electrosonic” by Don Harper, Li De La Russe and Nikki St. George on Glo-Spot.

Where are the beats you say? How about getting them out of Flying Lotus‘s “L.A. EP #2″, in stock in alls its Warpish glory, from Benga‘s new “Pleasure” 2×12″ on Tempa, from Martyn‘s “All I Have Is This Memory” on Apple Pips, or yet from the 2×12″ of remixes by Shackleton and Applebim on Skull Disco?
