Santa Claus is early, green and short-noticed this week: we have three tickets for the Harmonic 313 / Mark Pritchard concert tonight at Maria Am Ostbahnhof, to give away to three customers. Then, we’re experimentating this week with a new way to present the newsletter. Gone is the precise pigeonholing into genre, and we’re putting the new stuff this week into three categories: the electronic stuff (you know, made mostly with computers and keyboards), ranging from techno to breakcore and hip hop, the rock stuff (with guitars and haircuts), including indie, metal, folk and kraut-rock, and the weirdo section, with all things noise, experimental and left of center. You’re feedback is welcome about this new classification.

Pounding the clubs are a bunch of new electro from France, including Jean Nippon‘s 12″ on Institubes, A-Trak‘s “Saw Whoa” on Kitsune or Tom Deluxx‘s remix 12″ on Bocon Records. Knob Twisters of the third kind will freak out to Ladyscraper‘s adequately titled “Thunderbox” on Deathchant and Evol Intent‘s ambitious “Era Of Diversion” triple LP, while straight techno kids should bounce or romance to Trentemoller‘s live CD (on Poker Flat), DeWalta‘s “Hide And Seek” on Kalk Pets, Fuckpony‘s “Shocked” on Bpich Control.

Moving on to the guitars section, things are rather down-key and melancholic this time around, for example with Mogwai‘s “The Hawk is Hawling”, Asva’s “Futurists Against The Ocean” double LP, or Young Gods‘s accoustic “Knock On Wood”, as well as three new releases on Kranky (by Benoit Pioulard, Windy & Carl and Christina Carter). Mind you, it might go a little crazy and a little mashed up with Chrome Hoof’s new single, “Pronoid”.

Experimentalists in search of extra crcrcrcr and bzbzbzbz might appreciate our stocking represses of some old Current 93 and Whitehouse gemms, or want to check out Psychic TV’s new CD and DVD double-pack, “Mr Alien Brain vs The Skinwalkers” and Jim O’Rourke‘s “Despite The Water Supply” 7″ on Touch.

-JOE LALLY (FUGAZI) & ENDUSER, live at Dense on 7PM sharp. From accoustic set to breakcore in two hours.

Tuesday, October 21st:
-PETER KIRN, with a special set by this contributor to createdigitalmusic.com, to show you how it is or should be done, starting at 8PM.

Both gigs are free and take place at the Dense record shop on Petersburger Str 81. Please attend and spread the word.

We’re on time this week, which means that the amount of new releases listed below is kept quite reasonable.

The momentum obviously belongs to Broken Note, a british dubstep duo coming out this week with a record on Ad Noiseam (“Crux / Zealot”) and two on Peace Off (a split 12″ with Starkey and the “Fueling The Fire” 12″), for some very heavy and gritty dubstep. In the same aisle, be sure to check out the new record by the great Funckarma (“Dubstoned vol. 2″, still on Ad Noiseam), as well as Headhunter‘s debut full length CD, “Nomad”, out on Tempa.

Another “heavy” hitter and important release this week is “Dolores”, the new album by Germany’s favorite doomy and droney Bohren And The Club Of Gore. On a totally different and much more joyful note, Sebastian‘s “Remixes” on Ed Banger is here to wake everybody and pack the dancefloor real tight.

Techno fans will rejoice with the new Deadbeat full length album, “Roots & Wire”, when they don’t check the new Tiger Stripes 12″ on Liebe*Detail or the new DJ T on Poker Flat. And those of you more into drum’n'bass shouldn’t pass on ‘s new record on Holland’s Prspct label.

And finally, we’ve finally also have something you can show to your grandparents to explain what kind of music you listen to: “Recomposed”, a.k.a. Carl Craig and Moritz von Oswald‘s take on Ravel & Mussorgsky (out on Deutsche Grammophon) is here as well.

Double feature at Dense next Monday: we’re bringing the in-store gigs back with shows by two  high profile musicians.

First, we’re happy to have Joe Lally, the bass-player of the great Fugazi play an exclusive accoustic set to present his new, post-Fugazi material.

Joe Lally will be followed by another special set by Enduser. This essential name of the breakcore / d’n'b scene will showcase some of his new material.

The whole thing will start at Dense at 7PM sharp, and the entry is free, as usual. Be there on time, the whole thing will be over at 9PM.

Lots and lots of new stuff for Dense’s first list in October (sorry for missing out last week).

The techno aisle gets the lion share this time around, with Dave Aju‘s double LP, Funcarkma’s Cane‘s side project’s remarkable “Non Fiction”, as well as plenty of new wax from Hello Repeat, Dial, Archipel, Stil Vor Talent, Turning Spork, Mule, Wagon Repair and others. The list is long, make sure to check it out.

Moving away from all these beats, we’ve also received Mogwai‘s magnificent “The Howl Is Howling” double LP, as well as Justin Broadrick’s Jesu‘s “Why we are not perfect” new CD. In an ever more laid back, drony metal vein, check out Asva‘s great (and magnificently packaged)’s “What You Don’t Know Is Frontier” (on Southern). Closing the rock march, Genghis Tron‘s new 12″ brings the electronic back in the form of several very well chosen remixes.

Let’s stay heavy, with two new Shackleton releases in the dubstep bin, or get a bit more joyful, with a new Crystal Castles 12″ (“Crimewave”) or Boysnoize‘s retrospective double CD compilation, unless you want to dive into the three “Cosmic Balearic Beats” housy / disco / ethno compilations 12″ on Eskimo.
