Dense

New records for those of you who haven’t melted yet nor have moved to some lake for the whole summer. Dense’s braving the heat, and comes back this week with an uncommonly long list of goodies for your ears.</p> <p>One can’t dance so quickly with the current heat, so let’s start with dubstep’s slow beats, this week represented by <strong>Funckarma</strong>’s ” alt=”" />Komonazmuk’s “Bad Apple / Last Mistake” (a treat for people into 2562 or Benga), the vinyl version of Disrupt’s “Foundation Bit” on Werk, or the long awaited 12″ by Samiyam on Hyperdub.

In the techno aisle, Frederik Schikowski asks “Was hat das mit mir zu tun?” on his new 10″, to which DJ Koze answers “Let’s Love”. Ellen Allen steps “Out” with a new 12″ on her own Bpitch Control label, and Bovill and Murmur shares a split 12″ on Meanwhile.

Free-riding electro fans will rejoice this week, as we received two new releases on both Exploited (by RQM and Audioporno) and Man Recordings (Madera Limpia and Digital Dubs), while Machine Girl and Bong-Ra’s new records (respectively on Ad Noiseam and Praxis) will send breakcore freaks bouncing on the dancefloor.

Coming down, they might enjoy Oh No’s new album (“Exodus Into Unheard” on Stones Throw) or Tricky’s new album (in stock on both CD and vinyl).

Re-issues, backstock and rarities of the week: quite a few Kraut 7″ from Harmonia, La Düsseldorf and others, four very welcome early records by Earth on vinyl, and quite a few rare ones from The Young Gods.

Finally, rebels, music researchers and DVD afficionados might want to lend a pair of eyes to Atari Teenage Riot’s “Sixteen Years of Video Material” DVD, which documents just that.

Karsten Pflum und Slam52 both represent the cutting-edge of danish electronic music. With three full releases and a bunch of EPs in his bag, Karsten Pflum pays with his music a tribute to the glorious times of IDM, without losing the focus on the future of the genre. But we have heard rumors, that he got addicted to the wobble sounds of dubstep and that he will present some of his newest material at the NBI… Slam52 in turn, is a young star rising, with a first remix appereance on Cock Rock Disco. He will present his blend of vicious dubstep, dark amen breaks and industrial mayhem. Bass junkies have to check him out fo’ sure.
They will be supported by Berlins very own Hecq and Japans beat ambassador in Germany, Lambent. Hecq is not only one of the hottest and most profilic IDM artists right now, but he is also a sound designer with an impressive portfolio. Lambent just stoked the world with his first release on Stillavailable Records full of smooth and dreamy hip hop awesomeness.

Such an event won’t come any time soon, not even in Berlin. 5 € is the price, 9.30 pm the time, NBI the location.

Quite a few “heavy” news this time around at Dense, with the arrival of two massive (and limited) boxsets. The first is the new Ed Banger compilation, “Ed Rec III”, which contains no less than six records and a CD. Less dancefloor oriented, but as impressive is the boxset edition of Portishead’s new  “Third”, containing the album on two records, the one-sided, etched “Machine Girl” single, and a USB stick with the whole album and a few videos. Limited and very impressive is also the massive and carefully crafted vinyl version of Merzbow and Boris’s “Rock Dream”, on Southern Lord. More, do you say? Check out the deluxe edition of The Bug’s new “London Zoo”, with his two very heavy records (in both senses of the term) and gatefold cover. And if you still want to add more weight to your bag, available right now is “Pencilbreak“, Belio’s book about breakcore artwork, whose release party was hosted by Dense last week.

A bit lighter in packaging but not in sound, Dubstep fans should notice that we’ve got the latest Tempa release, by SP:MC, as well as the first two releases on Distance’s Chestplate label and the new Ebola, “Mutant Dubstep” CD. Faster and easier party music comes in the form of Modeselektor’s new single, “Happy Birthday Remixed 1″, the split between Patrice Scott and Andy Vaz on Yore, Anomaline’s “Verdementa/Gliss And Slide” or the import version of Jamie Lidell’s “A Little Bit Of Feel Good” single (with a different tracklisting from the “german” version). Also on Warp but less disco, the first single by Pivot for this label, “In The Blood”, is definitely somethint to check out. Finally, the all out madness of the week comes in the form of Death Storm, a project by Wasted’s regulars Bong-Ra and Maruosa that your neighbours are not going to like very much.

We’ll start with some electronica appetizers, first with a delicate, deep and slighty sweet album by Svartbag on the always recommended Rump Recordings label, and then with the full, rich and spicy beautiful new album by Leila on Warp, “Blood, Looms & Blooms” (available both as CD and double LP).
